Nobody was weighing
the packs. So we do.
Hike the world. Trust your pack.
WorldHike exists because the gear boom outran the facts. In a few short years, hiking and backpacking went from a niche pursuit to a mainstream weekend habit, and brought thousands of first-time hikers with it. What it didn't bring was verification: packs sold on listed weights nobody checked, "waterproof" claims with nothing behind them, and spec sheets nobody was testing against an actual trail.
So that's the job. For every piece of gear we rank, we weigh it on our own scale when we have it in hand, verify listed specs against manufacturer data and our own product dataset, and carry it on real trails. We hike with real packs, because a spec sheet can't tell you whether the straps still feel good at mile twelve. Then we rank, using a methodology we publish in full.
On independence: WorldHike is funded by affiliate commissions on some of the links we publish. Brands cannot buy a placement, a verdict, or a kinder review: rankings are set before monetization is ever considered, and a pack with no affiliate relationship outranks one with a deal whenever it earns it. The same standard drives our Top Picks page: the winners earn their spot in the rankings first, monetization comes after.
Every ounce earns its place. Listed specs don't earn a ranking.
Who we are, plainly: an independent editorial desk that tests hiking and camping gear. We handle every pack ourselves and report what we found: verified weight, real fit, how it behaves on trail, not just what's on the label. Spot an error, or think a piece of gear deserves a look? Write us at hello@worldhike.org. A person reads every email.
Our Top Picks
Every category's winner on one page: the daypack, the boots, the tent, the filter we would actually hand you, each with a live price check and the full guide behind it.
