About WorldHike · Independent hiking gear reviews

Nobody was weighing
the gear. So we do.

Hike the world. Trust your pack.

WorldHike exists because the outdoor gear boom outran the facts. In a few short years, hiking and camping gear went from a specialty-shop purchase to an endless scroll of lookalike listings, and brought thousands of first-time hikers with it. What it didn't bring was verification: packs sold on spec-sheet weights nobody put on a scale, "ultralight" claims with nothing behind them, and listed specs nobody was checking against the thing that actually ships.

So that's the job. For every piece of gear we rank, we weigh it and carry it: the real weight on our scale next to the listed one, real miles on real trails, and the question that decides everything at the bottom of a pack, does this thing earn its place? We cross-check listed specs against live Amazon product data, and we hedge anything we didn't measure ourselves as "listed" or "claimed." Then we rank, using a methodology we publish in full.

On independence: WorldHike is funded by affiliate commissions on some of the links we publish. Brands cannot buy a placement, a verdict, or a kinder review. Rankings are set before monetization is ever considered, and a pack with no affiliate relationship outranks one with a deal whenever it earns it. The same standard drives our top-picks rankings: the scale and the trail pick the gear, not the payout.

Every ounce has to earn its place. Spec sheets don't earn a ranking.

Who we are, plainly: an independent editorial desk that tests hiking and camping gear. We weigh every piece ourselves, carry it, and report what we found, not what the box says. Spot an error, or think a piece of gear deserves a look? Write us at hello@worldhike.org. A person reads every email.
