What this site is

Independent editorial reviews, rankings, and education about hiking and camping gear. Content reflects our honest assessment at publication and gets updated as products are revised. Some outbound links are affiliate links that may earn us a commission at no cost to you; placement and verdicts are never for sale, as detailed in our disclosure and methodology.

Safety & not professional advice

Hiking and camping carry real risks: weather, terrain, navigation, water, and wildlife among them. Nothing on this site replaces the manufacturer's instructions for your gear, which always govern, and nothing here is survival, medical, or professional outdoor-safety advice. Check conditions before you go, carry the safety essentials for your route and season, tell someone where you're going, and stay within your experience level. You are responsible for your own safety and for following the laws and regulations that apply where you hike and camp.

Purchases happen elsewhere

We don't sell products. Clicking a retailer link takes you to a third-party site whose own terms, prices, and policies govern your purchase. Verify price, sizing, and current specs with the seller before buying; products get revised faster than any review site can re-test.

Brand submissions

Submitting products or shipping a test unit (see Get Reviewed) grants us permission to test, photograph, and publish an independent review, positive or negative, without compensation or pre-approval. Test units earn consideration, never coverage or a particular verdict.

Intellectual property & acceptable use

All content is owned by Theory Road LLC. Quote brief excerpts with a link and attribution; don't republish wholesale, scrape at scale, misrepresent our verdicts in marketing, or use our name or ratings to imply endorsement without written permission. Product names and images remain their owners' property, used here for review and identification.

The legal boilerplate, honestly

The site is provided "as is" without warranties; to the fullest extent allowed by law, Theory Road LLCisn't liable for damages arising from use of the site or products purchased from third parties. These terms are governed by Texas law, with venue in Williamson County, Texas. If any provision is unenforceable, the rest stand. We may update these terms; the date above tracks the current version.
