The Desk

Who writes this, and what we hold it to.

Every review and guide on WorldHike is published by The WorldHike Desk, our independent research desk. We're the people verifying every spec and price, reading the owner failure reports, and writing the decision first so you don't have to guess.

Our promise

Every ounce has to earn its place. No piece of gear gets ranked on its spec sheet. We check its listed weight against the alternatives, read what long-term owners report from real trails, and judge whether what it does is worth what it costs you in ounces and dollars. It's the whole reason we exist.
Independence over payouts. We earn affiliate commissions on some links, but verdicts are set on the merits before money is considered. A brand can't buy a spot, a badge, or a softer sentence. See our disclosure.
Real numbers, honest limits. Where a weight or spec is the manufacturer's listed figure rather than one we verified ourselves, we say so. We test on real trails with a real scale, not in a certified lab, and we're straight about it.
We keep it current. 57 reviews and guides and counting, re-checked as new gear ships and brands revise their designs.

How we work

The full methodology, from verified listed weights and fit checks to trail miles and the living-with-it tests, is laid out in detail on How We Test. It's the same process behind every verdict on this site.
